Sorry for the delay in posts. With the semester only two months in, I am still figuring out how to prioritize and make time for all of the things that matter to me. That said, I felt myself feeling a bit overwhelmed so I took some time to re-align and take care of myself so that I could move forward feeling better and less stressed and whatnot. And boy am I glad I did that! Oh, and I missed you all, too.
So, let me clear the air and admit something to ya’ll —
blogging is hard and there are things I wish I would have known before I started blogging…
Now, don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love blogging. However, it is so time-consuming! Seriously. In one of my recent posts, I talked about all of what goes on behind-the-scenes as a blogger, but now I want to speak openly about certain things I wish I would have known. Some good, some bad, and some are just…nuertral, to say the least. But, without further ado…
success won’t happen over night
Harsh, I know. But, it is the honest-to-God truth. If you want overnight success, good luck and I really wish you luck with that. Because in most cases, it will take months and even years to reach total success in the blogging world/community. Keep posting. Keep networking. Keep interacting and engaging on social media. Keep creating *quality* posts. Keep working hard. Keep going above and beyond. Keep promoting yourself and your brand. Keep doing you. Success will come. I promise!
it’s a lot of work, time, and effort
you will feel drained at times
…and it’s okay! It happens. It really, really does. Like most anything in life, you will have your highs and you will have your lows. It sucks, I get it. However, you cannot let the low points convince you that blogging is not for you. If blogging isn’t for you, that is fine. But, do not make that decision just because you are feeling drained, discouraged, or unmotivated. Remember —
- You got this.
- I got this.
- We all got this!
you’ll grow as a person
Heck yeah, you will! Well, I most certainly am growing as a person. Thank God! Blogging has allowed me to accept that my voice; my opinions, thoughts, ideas, etc., matter and that I can change the world. It may sound cliché, but I really have grown to appreciate my place in the world and the impact I have on others. Blogging has helped me to de this 100%. And for that, I am grateful. I have also grown a thicker skin and a stronger work ethic. Oh, and I learned how to perfect time-blocking. Woot, woot!
you can not and will not be perfect
people will read your content (if you give them a reason to)
All I am going to say is this: read my post 5 reasons why I didn’t (and won’t) read your blog post so that you can make sure you are doing everything RIGHT and not wrong! Good luck and email me if you still have any questions and/or concerns.
you’ll be on your phone a *ton* (emphasis on the word “ton”)
I hate this. Seriously, I do. In 2017, I deleted Snapchat once and for all. Shortly after, I deleted all of my pictures on Instagram and stopped using it, didn’t have an active Twitter, and really only ever used Pinterest and occasionally Facebook (since I have such a huge family with people living all over the country and world). That said, I have never been one to love asocial media. In middle school, I did. But, as I have matured, I have come to the realization that social media just isn’t my thing.
Well, that is, until I became a blogger. Because being a blogger means social media and networking and one cannot do that without having an active presence on social media. If you have been reading my blog, though, you will come to find that my Instagram is a total work-in-progress and that I really only use my Pinterest and my Twitter accounts. Follow me! And, as far as the other social media platforms go, I am working on Instagram, but I *already* know that I will not be able to handle being on Insta all day so I am hiring an Instagram Account Manager to help me do all things Instagram so that I don’t have panic attacks.
blogging is a full-time job
And those are the 8 things I wish I would have known before I started my blog/since I started my blog!
sharing is caring! share this post on pinterest using the two pinnable pins above so others can read it, too
