So, it’s no secret that I have not been active on Instagram, whatsoever. In fact, I have been pretty forthcoming with you all in terms of my absence from that Insta platform. However, I don’t think I have ever really gone into detail as to why, as a content creator, I have avoided posting, commenting, liking, and scrolling through that particular app on a regular basis.
Because I get it — as a blogger, I should be posting on Instagram at least once a day and interacting on there a much as possible.
But… that isn’t me. At least not anymore. Had I launched my blog back in 8th grade or during the first few years of high school, I would have rocked at being present on Insta. But, as I grew up, I realized that Instagram only ever made me feel less than others and it honestly drained me. I started comparing myself to everybody else and eventually, I just said enough is enough. So, I deleted all of my pics and deleted the app. I did this with Snapchat, too.
And then I became a blogger…
So, I re-downloaded the Instagram app, started over, and started branding my account. In fact, I even went as far as to post a few pics and engage in Instagram so that I could grow a genuine following. However, that clearly did not last long. Even for that week of me being active and fairly consistent with my engagement, I felt so drained. Simply put, Instagram is not my thing.
But, because I know that it is an important and vital part of creating, growing, and maintaining a following, I decided that in order for me to be active on social media (namely Instagram), I was going to have to hire a social media manager to do 99% of the work. I was willing to hire a photographer and edit my own pictures with the cute Lightroom presets I have bought and even made (more on that coming soon!), but that I didn’t want to have to schedule, post, or stay on top of the account. I know this sounds bad. But, it’s for the best.
My mental health would plummet if I spent all day on Instagram…
That said, I had a single request, in terms of what all I needed my social media manager to do. That request included the following:
- me never having to post
Simple as that. Right? Yeah, I know. Most importantly, however, I have learned that I can be a successful blogger (and podcaster and YouTuber) without having to be on Instagram. Would having a strong INsta presence help? Certainly and because of that, I am now actively looking to legit re-do and restart my IG. however…
I want everybody to know that social media is not the end-all, be-all. It really, really isn’t.
It’s super important to realize this because social media is not worth the heartache or low self-esteem!
Keep being awesome and thanks for reading! Love ya’ll!
