So, just as the title reads, I…
hired a personal trainer!!
Yup. And boy am I glad that I finally decided to do so. A few years ago, I was at the best weight of my life: 130. Since then, life has happened and I have gained weight. And as my weight increased, my confidence decreased. I knew I wanted (and needed) to lose the weight, but I kept putting it off. I wasn’t willing to stick to a solid plan. Sucky, right? Yeah, I know. So that is why I finally decided to look for a local personal trainer that would work with me to get me back in shape!
First and foremost, please know that I decided to hire a personal trainer because I was tired of —
- lacking the self-discipline that I need to be able to reach my goals
- making excuses as to why I can’t lose the weight + reach my goal
- not being the size that I used to be + not fitting into all of my cute clothes anymore
- lacking the confidence I once had
- eating like sh*t
So, this is why I hired a personal trainer and why you should hire one, too (and please keep in mind that before you start working out, changing your diet, etc., you should talk to your doctor first so that you can make sure you do what’s best for you and your health!) —
my personal trainer offers accountability and motivation
I can look at all of the motivational quotes and before-and-after pictures of people during their weight loss journey and think to myself, “Wow, that is inspiring and/or motivating” and still not do a damn thing about my weight. Heck, all of what I just described are things I have done. And things I would have continued to do had I not decided to hire a personal trainer. Lacking self-discipline (in terms of always eating healthy and working on regularly) is also why I knew that having a trainer who would hold me accountable and make sure I stay on track was (and is) ideal for me. So, the bottom line is this: if you struggle with losing weight and/or staying fit due to your lack of self-discipline, then you should look into hiring a personal trainer. Seriously!
It didn’t take me long to find a personal trainer. Well, allow me to rephrase that. It didn’t take me long to find a personal trainer (near me) that was super expensive. It did, however, take a bit more effort to find a certified personal trainer that —
- is a female
- I knew I wanted a female personal trainer for various reasons and really was not willing to compromise on
- is in my general age range
- mid/late twenties to thirties
- is located near me
- within 20 minutes
- is not ridiculously expensive
- pretty self-explanatory, haha
- works out of a personal gym
- I wanted to have completely 1-on-1 sessions with my p.t. and didn’t want the distractions of others to affect my training and mess with my confidence
But, I found her and I am so glad that I did. I knew she would push me, educate me, encourage me, hold me accountable, and motivate me!
she knows what she’s talking about; she’s an expert
^ my personal trainer whenever I ask her questions
Yes, indeed! Certified (keyword ‘certified’) personal trainers know a ton about weight loss, weight gain, exercises that work for specific people’s bodies and goals, diets, calorie intake, etc. This is so nice, because you can easily go on Google and type in “the perfect weight loss diet” or even “the best ways to lose x pounds in x amount of time” and get millions of search results. And I am not saying that you will not and cannot find valuable info on the Internet. You can. However, everybody has different metabolism rates, body shapes, health issues, etc., so the Internet cannot guarantee that the results you’ll be getting back are what is right for you. All-in-all, weight loss is not a one-size-fits-all deal.
she helps me identify my goals
YAS! Goal planning and goal setting are super crucial in each and every weight-loss journey. Having a specific goal in mind allows you to effectively work towards the endgame: your goal. Not having and/or not knowing your goal will not be as motivating as the journey should and can be. Your personal trainer will sit down with you (early on, probably during your first consultation, to be honest) and help you come up with the goal you wish to have them help you accomplish. It’s super fun because then you will know exactly what you are working towards. This helps with accountability, too!
she personalizes and tailors workouts just for me + my goals
Yes, indeed and I love her for it! A personal trainer will work with you, 1-on-1, to better help you reach your goals. That said, they take into account everything about you and what you are wanting to accomplish so that they can create workouts that will help you and fit you best. This is super nice because you know that the workouts you’re doing are actually getting you one step closer to the very goals that you have identified and set for yourself!
she wants to help me be my best self
How awesome, right? I know!
That is why I (finally) hired a personal trainer!
